Daniel Baldwin holds the position of Director of Bands and Orchestra and Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music at Tabor College where he teaches conducting, music theory, arranging, and instrumental methods as well as conducting the Symphonic Band and String Orchestra. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK, and a MM in Composition with an emphasis in Wind Band Conducting from Kansas State University. He is a frequent guest conductor and has been a clinician/adjudicator in five states. His primary conducting teachers were Michael Knedler at Northwestern Oklahoma State
University and Frank Tracz at Kansas State University.
As a composer, his music has been commissioned by performers from numerous respected symphonies including the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Valdosta Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, Wichita Symphony, and the London Philharmonia. His music has also been performed at high schools and at contests across the country, as well as at universities and festivals throughout the world including Wichita State University, Texas Tech University, University of Texas, Baylor University, Society of Composer’s Region VI conference, MidSouth Horn Conference, Big 12 Trombone Conference, Masterworks Festival, MENC National Convention, the Midwest Double Reed Conference, the International Society of Bassists Convention, at six International Double Reed Conferences and abroad in Japan, China, Costa Rica, Australia, Canada, Belgium, France, Italy, and England among others. In 2008, his “Song of Praise” was selected as a winner of the MENC National Composition Competition. In 2009, his new band work “At the Foothills of the Adirondacks” was performed at Carnegie Hall to a rousing ovation. He is the founder and director of the Western Plains Consortium whose main goal is the creation of new ensemble works for all levels. He also has his own band, choir, and strings series entitled “Pathways” through Imagine Music publishing which has released over two dozen band and choir pieces to date. His primary composition teachers include Craig Weston, Max Ridgway, Timothy Mahr, and Eric Ewazen.
