Mathematics Details
Departmental Statement
The Department of Mathematics offers high quality programs within the context of a Christ-centered liberal arts education. The department has majors in Mathematics, as well as programs in pre-engineering and secondary teaching - and it promotes careful, deductive reasoning within these disciplines. Students are prepared for graduate school, and careers in teaching, business and government.
“I was immediately impressed with Dr. Brenneman’s style of teaching. Much more than merely what is on the syllabus is gained from his classes. For example, if at some point in the presentation of his material there is a mathematical question that arises naturally out of the considerations of the topic at hand, Dr. Brenneman is not shy to consider that question, even if he had not been prepared to talk about it. In this way, he invites the student to engage in genuine inquiry and not merely the recitation of formulae.” – David Penner (g’05)
