HILLSBORO, Kan.— Two Tabor College professors, David Faber, Ph.D., and David Stevens, Ed.D., will speak at its 114th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 4.
The college will hold two ceremonies this year, recognizing undergraduate students at 10 a.m., graduate students at 2 p.m. Faber will give the morning address and Stevens will follow in the afternoon. Both will be in the Richert Auditorium in the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts.
Faber is in his 40th year at Tabor College and currently serves as professor of philosophy and religious studies. Over his time in Hillsboro, he has chaired the humanities division, served as the director for the Carson Center for Global Engagement, and director of institutional research.
“I am honored to be invited to deliver the 2024 Commencement address to our Tabor undergraduates,” Faber said. “This group of students began their college careers amid the COVID-19 pandemic and persevered through really difficult circumstances. I hope to convey my and my colleagues’ affection and admiration for these students’ accomplishments.”
Faber completed his B.A. in English and Philosophy at Calvin College (Mich.) in 1979. He received his M.A. in Philosophy at Univ. of Massachusetts Amherst in 1984 and later earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1989.
Stevens arrived at Tabor in 2019 and taught in the Teacher Education department. He launched the college’s M.Ed. in Neuroscience and Trauma in summer 2021 and it has become a staple of the college’s diverse programming.
He said the opportunity to speak was profoundly significant because of his passion for graduate education at Tabor and for his loved ones who helped pave the way toward his master’s program.
“I have been deeply moved by the unwavering support extended by the administration and faculty towards our graduate programs and students,” Stevens said. “I hope I can convey the amazing opportunities that a graduate degree will afford them, and an appreciation for their God-given gifts that can be used to change lives.”
Stevens completed his B.A. in Education at Trinity College (Ill.) in 1992 and his teaching credential at Chapman University (Calif.) in 1995. He later received his M.S. in Educational Leadership at California State-Fullerton in 2003 before earning his Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern California in 2010.
“I am delighted to have Dr. Faber and Dr. Stevens serve as our Commencement speakers,” President David Janzen, Ph.D., said. “Both are very accomplished and thoughtful leaders who have invested deeply in our students, and I am confident that they will bless our graduates as they celebrate and embark on the paths God has put before them.”
