The Tabor College Chamber Strings and Symphonic Band will present the annual Christmas instrumental performance 4 p.m. Sunday Nov. 24 at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.
This year’s theme is “Snapshots of Christmas.” The Chamber Strings will begin the concert by playing a piece titled “Rhythmic Snapshots of Christmas” and all of the selections presented will provide numerous musical snapshots of the Christmas message.
“The music of Christmas ranges from the sedate to the boisterous,” said Larry Ediger, interim director of Instrumental Music. “Christmas music presented instrumentally has the ability to not only bring to mind the words of familiar songs; it has a range of expression that may be as sweet and soft as the most sedate carol and as powerful as the most boisterous celebration of Christ’s birth.”
Contemporary interpretations of traditional Christmas carols as well as classics such as “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson will be presented by both the Chamber Strings and Symphonic Band.
Ediger said, “Those who attend this concert will be able to both delight in the soft and sweet sounds of Christmas and be energized to praise by boisterous celebration.”
