It is that time of year again! Time to reunite with Tabor family, friends, alumni and the Hillsboro community. Plan to attend 2012 Tabor Homecoming “Dreaming in Color” Oct. 4-7, 2012. “This event is a great way to bring Tabor College and the Hillsboro community together,” said Marlene Fast, director of alumni relations. “We value having the community come to our campus and would love to have everyone join us.”
There will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy fellowship and food. Some of the traditional Homecoming activities occurring this year include: Music Fest, children’s activities by the science building, fun run/walk, the musical and many sporting events. An annual favorite, the Dutch Lunch, featuring a delicious German buffet, will be available in the gymnasium. For more details on activities and meal prices, consult the website or contact the Alumni office at (620) 947-3121 Ext. 1706 to pre-order your meal tickets. Class reunions are planned for Saturday after the game.
The performing arts department will be putting on “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Performances will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The show is by reservation, and tickets are required. To purchase tickets, contact the Tabor College Student Life office at (620) 947-3121 Ext. 1033.
“’Joseph’ was enthusiastically received by Tabor’s Homecoming audiences nine years ago and is, in a sense, back by popular demand,” said Judy Harder, professor of communications and theater. Friday afternoon and Saturday the Tabor art students will have their pieces on display in the library. All are invited to browse through and meet the artists between 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct.5th.
For those who are looking for a golf outing, you will not want to miss the Tabor College Golf Classic. It will be held Friday, Oct. 5 at Reflection Ridge in Wichita. Coffee and donuts will be served beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Space is limited so call early to make reservations for the 4 or 5 person scramble. Hillsboro Ford is sponsoring a “hole-in-one” contest with the chance to win a car. You will not want to miss out on this opportunity!
At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, alumni are encouraged to participate in the Festival Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita. It will be a time of fun and fellowship, and alumni honorary awards will be presented. Tickets are required and can be purchased through the alumni office.
Several sporting events will take place during the weekend in Hillsboro. Lady Jays volleyball will host Southwestern College at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. On Saturday, the football team will be taking on Kansas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. There will be an alumni baseball game at 10 a.m., weather permitting. Come out and cheer Tabor to victory! The volleyball team will be selling cinnamon rolls in Java Jays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday . Be sure to stop by to meet and support the athletes. For those with young children, Tabor’s Education Department will be hosting children’s activities for kids in preschool through sixth grade from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
