Artwork by renowned artist Shin-hee Chin, Assistant Professor for Art and Graphic Design, is now on display at her new website gallery www.shinheechin.com.

“The purpose of my website is to promote my artwork as well as Tabor College,” she said. “Indeed, I have long wanted to construct my own website. Although my website still needs some refinement, I am grateful that I was able to finish it with limited knowledge on web construction.”

Professor Chin, who teaches Drawing I, Painting II, and Basic Design II (color) at Tabor, became a student of web design before creating her own website this past summer during an art residency at the Red Barn Museum in Lindsborg, Kan.

The new web site contains stunning photos of her artworks, curriculum vitae, and the Artist’s Statement, describing Chin’s philosophy and creative process.

Recognized as one of the world’s foremost artists, Chin won “Best of Show” at the Fiber Focus 2007 exhibit in St. Louis, Mo., and was one of three finalists for the prestigious 2008 Lillian Elliott Award, an international honor sponsored by the Textile Society of America.

Her work “Choon San” (Spring Mountain) was accepted for the Chinese Quilt National ‘09 Exhibit, and will be on display in the Cultural Arts Center in China through Sept. 7, 2009.

Other honors and showings include:

  • “Choonsan” (Spring Mountain) was published in the book, Quilt National 2009: The Best of Contemporary Quilts: (More Than 80 Inspiring Creations). The photo image of Choonsan was shown in an article entitled “Thirty Year History of Quilt National” in Fiber Arts magazine, Summer 2009 issue.
  • “Caleb” was accepted for Nothing New: Fiber Art from Recycled Materials, National Juried Exhibit, the Textile Center, Joan Mondale Gallery, Minneapolis, Minn.
  • “Comfort and Peace” was accepted for Honorable Mention at Surface Design Members Juried Show, Kansas City, Mo.
  • Artwork on display at Fiber Focus 2009, National Juried Show, Art St. Louis gallery, St. Louis, Missouri September to October, 2009.

In addition to her teaching duties at Tabor, Chin is working on several artworks for the 10th Japan International Quilt Show and the Houston International Quilt Festival, 2010.
